Bio-Ball Basketball Tournament

The 4th annual Bio-Ball basketball tournament is an event that provides an opportunity for individuals from Massachusetts biotechnology companies to build friendships on and off the court with SOMA athletes through a fun and exciting event.
Sixteen Massachusetts-based biotech and pharmaceutical companies will be paired with 16 Special Olympics basketball teams to participate in a one day basketball tournament with both individual skills and 5 on 5 team competition. The event is sponsored by all of the providers that support the local biotech community and all proceeds of the day going to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts athletes.
In 2007, Bio-Ball saw over 400 participants attend the event. This year, a great line up of teams including Archemix, Alkermes, Alynlam, Cequent Pharmaceuticals, CombinatoRx, Critical Therapeutics, Genzyme, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Merck, Momenta, Novartis, Paratek, PAREXEL, Pfizer, Sepracor and Wyeth will take the court.
Bio-Ball is a great opportunity to create a better tomorrow for SOMA athletes by allowing individuals with intellectual disabilities to realize their potential through athletic events.
The evening also strengthens the partnership between Special Olympics Massachusetts and biotechnology companies as they work toward common goals in the arena and in their respective industries. Biotechnology companies and SOMA athletes demonstrate courage and perseverance when they strive daily to discover and create innovations to create a healthier future or to change perceptions of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Bio-Ball Goals:

Facilitate meaningful interaction among Special Olympics athletes and participating biotechnology companies and participating sponsors.

Increase visibility to the athletic skills possessed by those with intellectual disabilities.

Raise community support and awareness for Special Olympics Massachusetts.
