2020 National Coaches Day - Ted Canty

Ted Canty - Auburn Rocketeers

This year for National Coaches Day we are recognizing three outstanding Special Olympics Massachusetts coaches. We received dozens of nominations and were amazed to hear about incredible coaches who are making an impact on their athletes and communities.

"This an dedication about my coach Ted. Ted lives with his elderly parents, while working a very busy job, and still finds the time to help us out with our Special Olympics team.

Ted has been with the Auburn Rocketeers for a VERY long time as a coach. He started the team with my aunt and uncle and two cousins and me in 1999 and continues to help the team to this day. Ted helps in the sports of skiing, soccer, swimming, and track & field. While being a very busy person, he always makes time for us as well. He is known to be a amazing coach, and a very positive mentor. He's always willing to give an helping hand, whether it's just standing with an athlete while she was reading the athlete's oath, because she was very scared and nervous. He also helps someone get over the fear of getting in the water at swimming practice. Ted also is willing to help at any fundraiser and always shows up at every competition that we have. Ted has even left in the middle of a work shift to come to a practice. After going to the practice he will go right back to his work shift.

I hope this dedication about Ted helps you understand his love and dedication Ted has for our Special Olympics team."
