Community Engagement Manager
The Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for the implementation of Special Olympics Massachusetts programing at the grassroots level. This position will implement and maintain community-based programing by providing ongoing customer and logistical support. The position will connect athletes to programing in their community and connect athletes that are identified as ready for higher level or competitive opportunities to established community-based programs to ensure continuation of service for individuals in the community. The position will ensure athletes, volunteers and families are connected to the mission year-round. Also, in addition, the position will handle other general operational responsibilities for Special Olympics Massachusetts.
Special Olympics Massachusetts’s mission is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Key Responsibilities:
- Be the primary customer service liaison for community-based programs, young athlete programs, sport skill development/recreation locations within assigned geographic location.
- Continually cultivate and steward relationships with community-based volunteers and help create and educate volunteer teams and develop to support community-based program.
- Work with local community programs to ensure support of fundraising initiatives such as Polar Plunge, Xtra Mile, calendar raffle and local fundraisers.
- Work with Law Enforcement team to support fundraising and awareness within the geographic region.
- Place new athletes in recreational/skill development locations
- Place athletes from recreation/skill development locations onto appropriate competitive teams once athlete has been identified to move up to competitive opportunity. As well as athletes in young athletes' program to local recreational/skill development locations
- Assist in creation of competitive teams from recreation/skill development locations
- Assist in placement of volunteers to programs in assigned geographic area
- Implement partnerships agreements with like agencies in geographic region such as Y’s, Parks and Recreation, Boys and Girls Clubs.
- Help identify potential athlete leaders, fundraiser prospects, volunteer leaders for event leadership, programmatic leaders, officials, and corporate/organization funding.
- Work with Schools team to ensure information is shared to help with transition process from schools to recreational/skill development locations or competitive community-based teams.
- Assist with administrative duties as needed
Skills Needed:
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, public speaking, networking and relationship management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Experience in Salesforce or similar database, or any registration software/database preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends
- Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and other constituents.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the following skills:
- Action-oriented, Drive for Results, Dealing with Change & Uncertainty, Building Effective Teams, Customer-focused, Managing Vision & Purpose.
Background Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years in customer service, administration, or related field.
- Ability to work as part of a team and also independently.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment.
